# Integrate .char characters into your tools

> Ways to read Omnichar .char files from your own code: the Python SDK, a command line that any language can call, and the ComfyUI node.

A `.char` file isn't locked to Omnichar. If your tool generates images or video, it can read a character's reference images, description, LoRA and voice, and apply them itself.

> **[Python SDK](/integrations/python-sdk)**
>
> `omnichar-sdk` opens a `.char` and hands back its parts. Apache-2.0, no required dependencies.

> **[Command line](/integrations/cli)**
>
> `omnichar-sdk inspect --json` prints a whole character, so a tool in any language can read one.

## Which one to use

| You're building | Use |
| - | - |
| A Python tool, node pack or batch job | [Python SDK](/integrations/python-sdk) |
| A tool in another language | [Command line](/integrations/cli) |
| A ComfyUI workflow | The [ComfyUI node](/comfyui/getting-started), which is built on the SDK |

## Licence

The SDK is Apache-2.0, so closed-source tools can read `.char` files. The rest of the ComfyUI-Omnichar repository is GPL-3.0-or-later.

> [!NOTE]
>
> An HTTP API is planned. This section will cover it when it ships.
